Water filter information

A water filter is a device which removes impurities from water by means of a fine physical barrier, chemical processes and/or biological process. Water filters are used to cleanse water for irrigation, drinking water, aquariums, and swimming pools.

Water filters are primarily used to soften water and remove chemicals such as chlorine. Some scientists believe that the contaminants found in drinking unfiltered drinking water can be harmful to your health, even increasing the risk of developing cancer. The most common problem with unfiltered water, however, is a bad taste or smell particularly that of chlorine.

Activated Carbon Filtration is an established water filter technology that works through absorption of the problematic compounds, primarily to remove taste and odour but filter systems will also remove some harmful contaminants. Activated Carbon is a highly porous material with a very large surface area. Chemical pollutants are attracted to and held by the Activated Carbon's surface. These water filters are best suited for the removal of organic compounds.

UV Water Filters are able to kill the majority of bacteria and viruses in the water which passes through them. However, they won't remove chemical pollutants from the water. Also you should note that the treatment is ineffective outside of the treatment area, so water should be used immediately after it is treated.

In water filter terms, reverse osmosis (or hyper-filtration) is the process of filtering water under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane, allowing water to pass through but rejecting other particles such as bacteria, toxins, salts, and anything bigger than around 150 Daltons

Tap water is perfectly safe. But it does not always taste, look or smell as good as many of us would like. Impurities that affect your tap water's taste, odour, and colour include:

Chlorine: Chlorine can be used in water supply as a safe disinfectant. It has a bad taste and odour.
Sediment: This is inorganic matter or natural vegetation. Sediment can cause build up in household pipes and bad tastes and odours.

Water Hardness: Hard water contains dissolved minerals such as magnesium and calcium. These two elements in time cause lime scale to build up in kettles, hot water appliances. Metals and Heavy metals such as lead, copper and aluminium are often present, depending on the age of your homes plumbing.

Filtered water

Filtered water will provide you and your family with clean, clear, and fresh tasting drinking water and: Makes great tasting coffee and tea. Reduces limescale build up in kettles and coffeemakers.
May improve the colour and texture of foods cooked with filtered water and can reduce the amount of scum produced during cooking. Costs much less than bottled water. Filtered water helps cut flowers to last longer and household plants thrive.
